Postcard from Valladolid, Spain: Always a bigger fish

Kind of like the grass is always greener, there’s always a bigger fish.

But the older you get, it seems time is the biggest fish.

So we keep on exploring, currently boulevardiering in a slow dolce vita fashion.*

So this post reluctantly bids good-bye to our Spanish sojourn of 2022.

With apologies to guys at the top, there’s still more seafood for these boulevardiers to consume, and time is the whale.

* Confused by the unusual linguistic pairing? This blog will continue to hop around a bit with us reflecting our 2023 travels. And speaking of linguistics, I am unsure what arenal in the top photo means. The Google translation is sandy stretch, so perhaps that designates shallow-water seafood? Or perhaps Arenal is the surname of the fishmonger?

    1. Thanks, Shannon, but I’m still confused. Eutiquio González Arenal is linked in a sentence under history, and the site also references “shore” fishing with no trawling. And in the video script, Eutiquio González is referenced without the Arenal. So did you conclude it’s a last name, a fairly common one in the region, or does it mean shore fishing? Wait, am working on a post from our February visit to Oaxaca, and, lo and behold, a featured print is titled “Tortuga del Arenal.” Shallows?

  1. Yes, I’m pretty sure Arenal is a last name and Pescados Arenal is the name of his company. There is a photo of Eutiquio González Arenal on the website’s “Contacto” page. Also the logo used on the “Sobre Nosotros” and “Historia” pages includes Eutiquio on the hull of the little boat. Love doing research like this!
